Manufactured from 1862-65 in Yonkers, New York, the Starr Percussion Saddle Ring Carbines were issued to Union Cavalry Regiments throughout the Western theatre during the Civil War. The first shipment of 1000 Starr percussion carbines was delivered to the Ordnance Department in September 1863, and more than 20,000 were purchased by the US government by the end of the war.

This example is a .54 caliber, with pitted bore with some rifling and a 21 inch round barrel. Fair wood with 1 ½ inch chip in fore end and ¼ chip in wrist. (JT) carved in the left butt stock. Metal turning brown.
